I know the frustration of the roller coaster of weight loss and weight gain. I have felt the elation of losing a couple of pounds and the devastation of gaining 5. Over and over again.
My weight yo-yoed up and down many times over the last 36 years. I joined and rejoined a group program many times that helped me because of accountability, healthy recipes, the group dynamic and it gave me a core for my healthy eating system. But, eventually I realized that I had evolved and designed my own guidelines and system that worked really well for me. I don't track everything I eat and I wouldn't call it a diet. I have a healthy eating system that works for me and it actually works better for me not to track. I created practices and tools that enabled me to stay in my healthy weight range. It is based in whole health, mind, body and soul and they let me finally be free. Now I am 48 years old and I have kept off about 50 pounds for good now for about 13 years and am happier and more at peace with myself and my physical body than ever. I am grateful that I found my missing "peace". When you change the way you see yourself, you change yourself. That's my take on Wayne Dyer's quote, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
If you can be willing to write a new story for yourself and be willing to change your mind, you can change your life. In the past you may have seen yourself as not capable of doing some of the things your heart desired. You may have thought that it wasn't really possible to be in the healthy weight range and be happy with your physical body. Today you can begin to write a new story. You are beginning to change your mind. You can use this focus mantra to show your willingness. “I am willing to see myself differently.” A beautiful tool here is to write a letter from the point of view of your best friend or biggest fan to yourself about how awesome you are and the future you have planned for yourself.
