CONFESSIONS OF A FOOD HOARDER
One of the tools I discovered in my soul work on food and my physical body is to become aware of your thoughts of yourself and food, including how you see food and how you physically act with food. When I did this I realized that I probably/maybe/definitely have some hoarding tendencies with food. I wanted to always have certain types of food available like my healthy options and my special treats, like yummy chocolate pieces. Oh my, I just noticed how I said they were MY healthy options and MY special treats, which leads me to the next confession. Sometimes I would hide food from my family like the apples and carrots I NEEDED or I wouldn’t offer to share a treat to make sure I would have enough. I didn’t like sharing desserts because I had to race my son to the finish line to be sure I got enough. And then there were those BOGOs, the buy one, get one frees really spoke my language. I often overstocked food to be sure I wouldn’t run out. As if that could happen in one week! This tool knocked me and all of my hidden chocolates and apples over. I realized I was sending a message that I didn’t believe there was enough food and that my body needs to hold onto weight, because I believed and acted as if there wasn’t enough. This was a HUGE discovery for me! So now, I look at using this tool this way, it is good to be generous with food and running low on food is cool too. It shows a belief that there is enough and I can easily get more. There is no reason for my physical body to hold onto the hidden food and weight.
